Parent Education 2006 – 2007

Parent Education meetings are open to the public. Usually the parents meet to discuss school business for the first half an hour or so. Then the fun and learning begins.

Description: Sue Emery has been involved in child passenger safety for over 14 years - 7 years as a certified technician. Currently she serves the child passenger safety community through the work of the Washington State Safety Restraint Coalition. Sue's passion in child passenger safety is education, teaching parents and caregivers and in the creating of short courses to educate the general public. Sue does the vehicle research for Safe Ride News Publications, The LATCH Manual.

Our very own Jon Schill is a paramedic with the Everett Fire Department and will cover CPR and fire safety.

 

 

 

Title:  Your Child and the birds and bees

Biography: Amy Lang, MA has a 15-year history as a Sexual Health Educator, primarily as a volunteer and most recently as an employee for Planned Parenthood. She has provided sexual health education to adults and teenagers on pretty much every aspect of sexual health — from abortion to herpes zosters and everything in between. In addition, she has a Masters degree in Applied Behavioral Science from Bastyr University/Leadership Institute of Seattle. Amy's area of expertise is adult education, coaching and training.

Amy is passionate about sexual health education and became aware that young people are not getting the information when they need it (i.e. very early in childhood) nor from the people they most need to hear it from, their parents. A parent herself, she started Birds + Bees + Kids to help other parents and caregivers start and continue conversations about sex with their children.

Title:  Child Centered Preschool Education

Speakers:  Bev Bos and Michael Leeman

Where: Shoreline Community College Conference Center

Biographies: Bev Bos is an internationally renowned presenter and one of the nation´s foremost experts on preschool learners. She is in great demand as a seminar leader and speaker at workshops and conferences throughout North America. Bev is an energetic, creative and inspiring teacher who has successfully used every idea she shares in her seminars with her own preschool students. In addition to being a recording artist and author, she has been featured on the television news weekly “2020” as an outstanding proponent of child-centered preschool education.

Michael Leeman is a talented teacher and musician who has co-presented with Bev Bos for many years. In addition to his presentations on art, music, creativity, science, and child development, Michael illustrates books for young children. He currently teaches music and is a popular presenter at seminars and conferences. In addition, he and Bev are the authors of Current, Best Strategies for Creating an Outstanding PRESCHOOL Program, the resource handbook each participant will receive at the seminar.
